All Seattle residential landlords must register rental properties with the City of Seattle. Registrations must be renewed every five years.
A new registration is required upon the sale of a rental property or a change in ownership.
Seattle landlords are required to provide a copy of the current registration to all existing tenants, and to all new tenants at or before the time the tenant takes possession of a rental unit.
Seattle landlords may not evict a tenant from an unregistered rental property. The landlord may also be subject to enforcement actions by the City, which may include penalties.
