If given a 30 day notice by a landlord, are you responsible for rent that month?

I was given a 30 day notice by my landlord at an apartment complex because they no longer wanted me there, so I left within 30 days an didn’t pay rent. Was I responsible for rent? I recently received a letter from an attorney stating that I was. Please guide me in the right direction.

  • Landlord says:

Yes of course, you can’t live there for free.

  • storyline says:

yes!!! if your even out before the 30 days ,unless it’s in the rental agreement that you get a prorate to move ,you must pay for what you use.

  • the kid says:

Yes, of course you are. You lived there, you owe rent.

  • real estate guy says:

of course. You owe for the FULL month, not just until you moved.

  • slice says:

Of course you are, if you are living in the unit.

  • cowgrl says:

Of course; even if you left the second they gave you notice, you are still responsible for last month’s rent.

Pay up or they will sue you (and win).

  • reenzz says:

Yes. Legally you are responsible for the full 30 days. Your choice to move out sooner is irrelevant.
