Does anyone know if a power of attorney is allowed in small claims court. This is a landlord/tenant situation

My husband and I have a home we rented to a tenant. The home is in my mother-in-law name. She just signed a power of attorney over to my husband to represent the case. Is this allowed in New York courts.

yes. the only thing not allowed in small claims court is lawyers.

A power of attorney can never permit a non-attorney to represent someone in court. Also, contrary to the first responder’s answer, attorneys are permitted in small claims court. However, they do not usually appear, as the fee permitted is usually ridiculous.
