Do I need to keep paying rent when my landlord is going into a foreclosure?

My landlord has not been paying his mortgage in the last 6 month (while i was religiously paying him my rent) now the bank’s attorney is claiming a foreclosure. My landlord is asking me to keep paying the rent… should I pay him, even if they can throw me away anytime? we know he is not gonna pay the bank, he is out of the country and can’t come back anytime soon. What should I do?

  • Tim says:

Until the house is foreclosed on, you still need to pay the rent.

I would also be looking to move rather than waiting to be kicked out.

Yes, you still need to pay your rent. You still can be evicted for non-payment of rent and it could go on your record.

I would be checking into other living accommodations though.

  • Landlord says:

Legally you have to pay rent until he no longer owns the place.

I would start looking for anther place though. It sounds like time is short.
